This is the only existing Klemperer recording of Mahler´s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. As far as the Mozart and Beethoven symphonies are concerned, they offer an interesting comparison with Klemperer´s own studio recordings. These live recordings from Klemperer´s pre-EMI period refute the stereotype of the conductor´s heavy diction and slow tempi: here are passionate interpretations, full of tension and dynamics with Toscanini-like rapid tempi. Some passages of the finale in the 7th symphony exceed even Beethoven´s own metronome markings.
