The closest approach to 19th century piano tradition: Welte Mignon piano rolls from 1905/06 by three pianists born in the first half of 19th century, digitally recorded at Freiburg/Br. on the Steinway Welte piano of the late Edwin Welte, inventor of the Welte recording system and founder of the world known manufacture and recording studio. Recently restored, the instrument has been furnished with electronic speed control, hence absolutely authentic tempi!

„This piano retrospective à la Welte-Mignon is like a missing acoustical puzzle piece which fits into a variegated, yet enigmatic picture of an earlier and distinctive "historical" past.“ (FonoForum)

„You know, Saint-Saens could play! Of course he was in a 1905 timeframe and I was in 1993, but he spoke to me and tought me something about music. Yet, this is a digital recording from the Welte Mignon Steinway and it is invaluable." (CD Review)
