Friedrich
Hollaender: a master of clever, even wise humor, of hilarious punchlines,
sparkling irony and of a brilliant music that makes the most of his words and
his jests. He was a genius, the genius of German cabaret as well as of both,
German and American film songs.
Falling
in Love Again, The Boys In The Back Room, Moonlight And Shadows
and so many other classic songs flowed from his pen, in Hollywood under the name
of Frederick Hollander. But there is so much more to know of his work.
In
these previously unpublished private recordings, we meet Hollaender as a
stunning pianist and performer of his own works, scores which habe been unjustly
forgotten. These three musical theater pieces from post-World War II reveal
Hollaender’s tremendous talent, but also the tragedy of his quest for success
late in life. The recordings evoke our respect for the multitalented satirist,
composer, lyricist, director and dramatist and remind us of how many new facets
of his work we have yet to discover. Falling in love again, indeed.
